GRIME IN THE MAINSTREAM?

How do you feel when all of a Grime artists attempts to go mainstream has been more "Pop" than anything else?

I think it's sad especially when the artist doesn't get the recognition he/she was looking for. Adding to that why don't all the spitters that fail taking this route ever try something different like sticking to Grime and pushing it?

Not sure if we consider Wretch 32 to be grime but he is a perfect example. "DONT GO" was an amazing track and I don't think Wretch got all the praise he deserved for that tune. His following tune "3 WORDS" was excellent too but I feel like he was reaching for a different audience on this track. And I haven't heard/seen any of his what I consider die hard fans give it that much mention.

And going further Ghetts has just released something called "Fire Burning" artists are leaving the style they are known for in hope of mainstream success. This is what confuses me, your clearly talented with this style you have created why abandon it in the hope of bigger success and money? To me thats like training to be a boxer for 10 years and then when fight day comes you're doing Muay Thai. Now you're in ring looking stiff and don't even know how to check a leg kick....?

Am I wrong to think that an artist should stick to one genre and master that sound rather than going to whatever genre is popular and may bring in the pounds? (I'm not an artists so feel free to chime in here)...

There's evidence that this idea works with Lethal B for example I know his mainstream sound isn't entirely grime but it still has some elements.

Furthermore why don't artists just make one Grime track for every Pop track they make and see which one creates the biggest buzz?

Ever heard the saying

"Trying the same thing and expecting different results is a sign for insanity" ???

Anyway what I'm saying is Grime artists shouldn't be using the Grime platform to gain recognition then going to another for mainstream success.

GRIME SHOULD BE FORCED ONTO THE MAINSTREAM.

Who will take this sound seriously when people are using it just as a stepping stone to move on to something "better". The least artists should be doing is combining Grime with other genres.

@YoungsTeflon - Grimes Dead PT.3 [Freestyle]

Teflon says Grime is dead but he clearly enjoys it so much he's now released a third installment of "GRIMES DEAD".

“WHAT YOU CALL IT GRIME? WHAT YOU CALL IT GARAGE? CALL IT WHAT YOU WANNA CALL IT I’LL MANAGE” Youngs Teflon 2015.

Teflon has grown a lot since he made his way into the scene I honestly thought he was going to be someone that only features on Blade Brown tunes when he started making solo tracks I was pleased and could see that he had a wave.
The reason why I enjoy these Grime tunes is because he doesn't change his flow he just speeds it up a little bit so it fits 140 BPM. At the same time doing better than a lot of Grime artists today. If I was a spitter this would motivate me to up my levels.

Only bad thing I can say about this is part 1 and 2 were better, but this is still levels. Maybe someone from Grime should do "RAP IS DEAD" that would be interesting.

Do you think Teflon is better doing Rap or Grime?

NoLay Ft. P Money & Blacks - Don't Stop [@OfficialNolay]

NoLay needs to be circulating the internet like these other spitters. She is just as good if not better than some people in the Grime scene but I hardly see her on the internet. She should be doing more features too or maybe certain man are afraid they will get spun off their own tune that’s a possibility?

“LOOK HOW I GOT THESE N*GGAS ALL SHOOK TALK A LOT OF SHIT BUT NEVER GET BOOKED” NoLay 2015.

Whatever NoLay is doing I hope she continues making music, a few female spitters have come into the scene only to slowly regress and fade back into the background (Shystie, Ms Dynamite and Lioness to name a few). I love her aggression and energy she brings to every beat she even held it up with P Money and Blacks on the track which isn’t a easy job. We definitely need more female spitters in the scene, I’m curious whether the audience takes them seriously though?

What do you think of female Grime artists?

The Heavytrackerz - TRKRZ Ft. Stormzy, P Money, D Double E, Youngs Teflon + MORE @Heavytrackerz

I can't be only that got gassed when I heard D Double E say

"DIRTY TEE TEE".

It takes me straight back to the days of Nasty crew pirate sets when I was fixing my aerial for the best signal.

Is Youngs Teflon trying to bring Grime back to life after his "Grimes Dead" episodes? I'm not sure but I'm backing that movement. Must be a little bit embarrassing when someone that's known for rap can do better than you on Grime.

"BIG BLACK GHANA MAN COME TO LOCK OFF THE DANCE AND MOVE TO YOUR GIRLFRIEND" Stormzy 2015.

As far as I'm concerned Stormzy, P Money, Narstie and Teflon spun everyone else on the track except D Double and Footsie. Simply because that's a legendary sing along bar. The era that them lyrics came from is golden furthermore anyone from that era shouldn't be allowed to spit their old bars because it's just not fair.

Can we take a moment to realise how much progress Stormzy has made as well...  Wow. I don't think I've seen anyone come up in the scene so quickly he deserves all the good things that are heading in his direction.

He's a true inspiration to the people. Keep in mind these are the early stages of his success story I wonder what will happen next...

Oh and one last thing.. How comes the YouTube title doesn't list all of the spitters on the track? You can't put one mans name on there and leave out the rest I thought that was a bit out of order.

Fire in the Booth - Big Narstie PT2 @bignarstie

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one that thought Chipmunk was reaching for relevance. All I'm saying is

"BLACK MAN CANT FOOL AGAIN MY LORD" Big Narstie.

If anyone hasn't seen Big Narstie's reply to what Chipmunk was crying about I suggest you do your research.

Narstie has been consistent for God knows how long I remember the Spun a Web days. From then till now he's always been making noise. What more could you ask for from a artist except for them to keep releasing material at certain standard? I'm still stuck on his Whats The Story Brixton Glory project, I like how he keeps it British with the Base Defence League which something I will always support as long as the content is good of course. His lyrics and personality are a great combination whether you know him has Uncle Pain or Big Narstie he owns both titles.

When I think about it there isn't anyone else in the Grime scene like Big Narstie. He has sick bars and could probably be considered a comedian truly unique.

The time I met Big Narstie he seemed like a cool guy, he was telling jokes and was very down to earth not once did I feel like he was trying to force an image or acting.

Watch out for Gas Pipe 28th February no doubt that will be a gassers.

Rival & Blay | Headshot Vision [Music Video]: SBTV

I could tell by the song title that I'd like this tune. The energy is continuous and the way these two shared the beat was good. It wasn't one sided both spitters peaked at different times on the tune. I like a balance as much as I like seeing someone get spun on a track.

"U DONT WANNA GET BOXED IN THE MOUTH ALL BLEEDING THINKING THEM MAN ARE EXTRA" Rival & Blay - Headshot Vision 2015

Not sure how long Blay has been in Grime for but his flow gives me life on this tune. Rinser man has been producing some sickness at moment also listen to Ghetts - Esco Spirit if you don't believe me the beat is so grimey.

I am going to be on the lookout for more work from these two...

CHIP IS FROGGY??!!

Chipmunk has made a return. I hope everything he is saying is true because what he done was try to forget grime and go to America. TI and whoever else was in charge made him change his name to "CHIP" which I thought was a joke.

It looks like now the hype has died down Chipmunk wants to come back to Grime like he never left?

Him going at Tiny was to show us that he's back representing the urban scene. But how serious was that speech? I don't personally think Tiny was ever a Grime artist he was never active in the scene like that I can probably count on one hand all the tunes his made that could be considered Grime. It's normal for artists to send for the whole industry so Chipmunk getting upset about Tinie saying

"A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR EVERY RAPPER OUT OF A DEAL" is stupid he's reaching trying to get people on his side. At the end of the day there's an element of competition in Grime, this post won't be about Tinie Tempah.

Chipmunk is back for now and if he believes everything he's said I'm glad he's returned and I hope that he's here to stay. I just don't think he should expect everyone to respect him again so easily he needs to earn that. He can do as many speeches as he wants as long as he backs them up.

Practice what you preach.

Now one question before I finish, does anyone still look at Chipmunk for bars? He seems confident people have been waiting for his comeback?

Is he the Michael Jackson of Grime?

I'm saying no...

Also he mentioned a few times about how he's been in a Cypher with big names and made a tune with Meek Mill but at this point what does that mean?

Miss us with the coonery Chip I want to hear some Grime.
